Itinerary for the 6-Days Toubkal Circuit Trek
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1740m) – Tamatert Pass (2279m) – Wanskra (2291m)
Around 8:00 AM, we transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,700m), located at the foothills of the Toubkal Massif and the starting point of our trekking expedition. We begin our hike with an ascent towards the Tamatert Pass (Tizi n’Tamatert, 2,279m), enjoying scenic views over traditional Berber villages along the way. We then continue walking to reach the village of Wanskra at 2,291 meters.
Drive duration: 1h30 | Walking time: 5 hours. Overnight stay in a local guesthouse.
Day 2: Wanskra (2291m) – Likemt Pass (3550m) – Azib N’Likemt (2250m)
After breakfast, we begin a 3.5-hour climb to the Likemt Pass (Tizi n’Likemt, 3,550m), where we pause to admire views across the Tachdirt Valley and surrounding High Atlas peaks. After a descent and lunch break, we walk another hour to reach our campsite near Azib n’Likemt, where nomad shepherds graze their sheep and goats during the summer months.
Walking time: 6 hours. Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Azib N’Likemt (2250m) – Ourai Pass (3109m) – Amsouzarte (1740m)
Our trail crosses high mountain pastures towards the Ourai Pass (Tizi n’Ourai, 3,109m). We then descend into the Tinzar Valley, stopping for lunch while taking in the authentic Berber architecture of the valley’s villages. We cross the main High Atlas ridge to reach its southern slopes.
Walking time: 5.5 hours. Overnight in tents or local guesthouse.
Day 4: Amsouzarte (1740m) – Imhilene – Ifni Lake (2295m)
We hike along the N’Islani Valley, passing through the mountain villages of Ibrouane and Tisgouane Takatert before reaching the shores of Ifni Lake (2,295m). Nestled at the bottom of a deep valley surrounded by rugged peaks, the lake provides a picturesque campsite for the evening.
Walking time: 5 hours. Overnight in tents by the lake.
Day 5: Ifni Lake (2295m) – Ouanoums Pass (3670m) – Toubkal Refuge (3207m)
We embark on a steady climb to reach the high Ouanoums Pass (Tizi n’Ouanoums, 3,670m). From the pass, we enjoy views of the surrounding 4,000-meter peaks before descending to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m), the main base camp for mountain ascents.
Walking time: 5.5 hours. Overnight in tents or refuge dormitory.
Day 6: Toubkal Refuge (3207m) – Mount Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Imlil (1740m) – Marrakech
We set off early in the morning for the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa. Reaching the summit grants breathtaking 360-degree panoramas across the High Atlas Mountains. After celebrating at the peak, we descend back to the refuge for lunch, then continue down past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to Imlil, where our vehicle waits to drive us back to Marrakech.
Walking time: 6.5 hours | Drive duration: 1h30 (Total approx. 8 hours).
