The program for Family Trek in Morocco
Day 1 : Marrakesh – Tighza – Start hiking
Transfer from Marrakech to the valley of Ait Bougmez. Lunch will be in Azilal, the gateway to the High Atlas, before reaching the village of Tighza, where we’ll be meeting our team of muleteers. We’ll start our hike by ascending to the plateau of Tafenfant at 2300 meters of altitude. Night in tents. 5-hour drive, 3-hour walk.
Day 2 : Tafenfant – Col of Omskik (2800m) – Azib N’Ikkis
We leave the plateau of Tafenfant to reach the small col of Omskik (2800m) by ascending through a juniper forest. Then, we’ll descend to the sheep pens of Arous where we’ll find the nomads with their herds (goats, sheep, etc.). Lunch will be served at noon before visiting the Arous gorge in the afternoon. Night in tents. 5-hour walk.
Day 3 : Azib N’Ikkis – Ait Bougmez Valley – Source of Ait Imi
We’ll descend the Arous valley and then the Ait Bougmez valley, passing by the valley’s traditional crop fields with their irrigation system. We’ll pass through villages named Agouti and Ait Ziri. We’ll have lunch under the large walnut trees near Tabant and continue our walk to the source of Ait Imi in the afternoon. Night in tents. 5-hour walk.
Day 4 : Source of Ait Imi – the sheep pens of R’bat – Ait Hkem
We leave the source of Ait Imi and head towards the famous dinosaur vestiges. The neighboring village of R’bat will be our next destination, before ascending to the Adazen mountain and enjoying a great view of the valley. We’ll then descend on the other side of the valley. Night under the tents near the village of Zaouit N’Oualmzi. 5-hour walk.
Day 5 : Ait Hkem – Ifern – Timit
We continue our trek through the crop fields of the valley with their traditional irrigation system. It will be a great day where we’ll have the chance to meet the highlanders working in the fields and pass by the villages of Ait Ouanougdal, Ifrane, Iskatafene, to finally ascend the pyramid of Timit to visit the marabout of Sidi Moussa (2008m), which offers an astonishing bird’s-eye view of the valley. Night at a local’s in Timit. 4 hours and 30 minutes walk.
Day 6 : Timit – Azilal – Back to Marrakech
A small 2-hour walk, descending the happy valley of Ait Bougmez. We’ll pass by crop fields (corn, wheat, apples, poplars, walnut trees), quietly observing the daily work of the villagers in the fields and small grain mills. We’ll then meet our driver in Agouti and transfer back to Marrakesh.
