M’goun Hiking Morocco: A hike that allows discovering the Central High Atlas with M’Goun Ascent, the second highest summit in Morocco, and the exploration of the Ait Bougmez valley (Happy Valley). This program is offered for a week of trekking in Morocco. We begin our trek in Ait Bougmez, then ascend Mgoun (4,071m) and have the opportunity to encounter nomadic families in the high plateaus of M’goun region.

Day 1 : Marrakech – Ait Bouguemez Valley (1750m) – Start of the Trek – Overnight Camping at Ikkis N’Arous (2300m)
Our journey begins on the first day with an early morning transfer from Marrakech to the charming town of Azilal, known as the gateway to the mountains. From there, we continue our journey to the Tizi N’Tirghist Pass (2600m) before reaching the peaceful and happy Aît Bougmez Valley. Upon arrival, we meet our muleteer team and enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards, we start our ascent, hiking up the small Arous Valley towards the Ikkis n’Arous sheepfolds. This day involves approximately 5 and a half hours of trekking, with a 500-meter elevation gain. We spend the night under tents for a well-deserved rest.
Day 2 : Ikkis N’Arous (2250m) – Tarkedit Pass (3400m) – Tarkedit Plateau (2900m)
On the second day, our adventure continues with an ascent towards the Tarkedit Pass, located at an altitude of 3400 meters. Along the way, we make several stops to admire the magical view of the Mgoun range and the summit of Mgoun, reaching an elevation of 4068 meters. We then descend for about an hour to the Tarkedit Plateau, a vast area frequented by nomads. This day’s trek lasts around 5 and a half hours, with a 1100-meter elevation gain and a 500-meter descent. We spend the night once again under tents.
Day 3 : Tarkadit – Ascent of M’Goun (4071m) – Izabinne Sheepfold (2600m)
The third day presents a particularly intense stage, with approximately 9 hours of trekking. We ascend to the ridge, offering spectacular panoramic views up to the summit of M’goun, the roof of the High Atlas Central. From there, we are mesmerized by the splendid view of the entire M’Goun Massif and its distant valleys, including the Drâa and Dadès Valleys. A long descent through magnificent landscapes finally leads us back to our campsite. This day involves a 1200-meter elevation gain and a descent of 1470 meters. We spend the night under tents after covering approximately 22 km.
Day 4 : Izabinne Sheepfold (2600m) – Bouberden Pass (3100m) – Timit Village
The fourth day will be an opportunity to meet peaceful nomadic families with their herds. Our route leads us to the Bouberden Pass, culminating at 3100 meters, offering panoramic views of the surrounding majestic mountains and a rear view of Mgoun. A long descent then takes us into the Ait Bougmez Valley, where a delicious lunch is taken near a juniper grove. After about an additional hour and a half of descent, we reach our peaceful campsite near the source of Ait Imi (1900m). The trek covers a 500-meter elevation gain and a 1350-meter descent, over a distance of 21 km.
Day 5 : Ait Imi – Mount Adazen (2400m) – Descent into Ait Bougmez Valley – Timit Village (1750m)
This peaceful day offers us the chance to explore the natural wonders, as well as the architectural and cultural treasures of the happy Aït Bougmez Valley. We start our journey by visiting the dinosaur footprints nestled in the heart of Ibaklioun village. Next, a pleasant one-hour ascent through the juniper forest leads us to the Adazen ridge. The descent then begins through a picturesque trail, leading to Ait Ouangdal village. Throughout the journey, we pass through charming hamlets with their mud-brick houses harmoniously blending with the impressive Atlas landscapes. We make a stop to visit the ancient Marabout and fortified granary of Sidi Moussa, offering a magnificent view of the valley. A fulfilling 5-hour hike awaits us. Our night will be spent in a homestay in Timit village.
Day 6 : Transfer from the Happy Ait Bougmez Valley – Ouzoud Waterfalls – Marrakech
We embark on a vehicle transfer to the small town of Azilal, taking a different route. A visit to the famous Ouzoud Waterfalls is on the itinerary. For lunch, we savor a local meal in a charming restaurant near the waterfalls. After this refreshing break, we resume our journey towards Marrakech, with an expected arrival at around 5 PM. The journey takes about 5 hours. Thus, our services come to an end.
